Finally back to some style

The best looking socks on the market, hope they are warm

Would love to see someone wear socks like this underneath a tuxedo on their wedding day. Canadiens, I bet would wear them during a winter wedding. Can’t wait to wear these during the upcoming snowboard season. I am finally coming out of retirement to strap on a board for my first full season in 12 years. Going to show those ice coast two plankers how to rock these lame hills out here. Steven’s Pass raised! Going to rock it.

Treasure Trove at the Pig

So its not wedding related but this place is my new favorite restaurant, sorry Momofuku Noodle Bar. I love the pig. Also got the much coveted matches… yes I am that dork.

Spotted Pig Matches Front

If you haven’t been, its so worth the two hour wait. I want to go tonight for dinner and have an Oban with a single cube of ice.

I Spotted the Pig and it was Devine

Dinner with my sweetie last Saturday was unreal and worth the two hour wait… Did I mention that Elizabeth is a snob with most things but especially food. I can’t complain though. The food was one of the best I have had in the city and we went to Gramercy Tavern a few weeks before to celebrate the new job finally. The two restaurants are similar only because they do American style food but Spotted pig is more of a fancy pub food, Gastropub is what I have learned. I highly recommend it for date night. We had been arguing all day because of the mother-in-law so eating and drinking a very good meal was a great way to get my mind off of that mess.

Wedding clichés

Doing accent marks is seriously a pain in the ass. Saw this story today about wedding clichés on Shine and thought it would be great to add here. I for one think the table names are great. Its a fun way to insert your personality into the wedding, which after all is really about your personality not your parents. Elizabeth and I did names of famous avenues in Manhattan, although I really wanted to stick the in-lawys in Siberia. Elizabeth didn’t even want the song At Last to be played at all and I still think getting your wedding photos next to a vintage car is very un-creative. The pooch thing is cute but common people, its a dog.

Goofy and not so goofy wedding clichés

Marriage Cartoon

Saw this years ago in the New Yorker. Everything is going great, it really is, but learning how to live with someone different as you can imagine be quite challenging. Which is a good thing because if that person was you, you might be bored.

Oh marriage bliss

Not Your Typical Men’s Wedding Rings

Received an email the other day from Refinery 29, I know, I know its kind of chick related, but really check this out. 16 Alternative Wedding Rings for Guys

There are some cool rings in here. I only wear the one wedding ring but after seeing this I kind of want to wear another one, but how many rings can a guy wear before they start looking like Keith Richards or Liberace?

Not your normal guy rings

The David Yurman, Satomi Kawakita, Steam Punk Funk and even the Cartier are my favorites. Least favorite is the collection by TIffany’s, damn they are really bad.

Not surprising that designers on ETSY are getting some much needed recognition but it would be great to start seeing some of the top men’s designers in the mags. I am really digging the antique barn nail for something different to wear on the other hand or swap it out for my current ring to shake things loose, going wild and crazy with this changing rings thing, I know… dork.

Seriously though, now I am curious. Is it okay to swap out your wedding ring like wearing new glasses, or changing from summer to fall clothes?

Good Wedding App for Guys

Great looking app

Just saw this excellent app for finding the perfect ring, and its FREE. Tiffany & Co. released this app on April, 6 and it looks like it has some potential to really help guys out when shopping around for rings.

I wish I had this in my arsenal while shopping around last year. I did get a nice little book from Tiffany’s that helped explain the differences in cuts which was really helpful.

The guide I carried around with me

If you can find the book, just ask a salesperson for some literature, I highly recommend it.

The key is to not be intimidated by all the choices. Just stick to a budget and everything will be fine and hopefully your fiancee will not demand a rock the size of Texas requiring a few year’s worth of your salary… The old adage that you should spend 2 months salary on a ring is total bull$h!t. Shop and look for something in your price range.

I think your future wife will be happy that you were smart about your money and were able to get a nice looking ring for half of what other dudes spend.

Kate Spade Bridal

Check out the new wedding line by Kate Spade.

I know its not guy related but I’m digging the new Kate Spade Bridal wear. The new line is called “Wedding Belles” and has three categories: Bride, Bridesmaids and Honeymoon. I love the Kate Spade line so much that my wife received quite a bit from the fun fashion line for Christmas. Can’t wait for the weather to warm up and see her rock the dress and skirt.

For those men not familiar with the fashion Kate Brosnahan created in 1993, I would categorize it as a fresh vintage take on clothes that is not really seen today. Most women tend to lean toward shopping at Banana Republic, J Crew or the Gap but what they don’t think about is how cute the Kate Spade clothes are. Maybe this is because most women tend to think of Kate Spade as just a place for hand bags but the thing is their clothes are simply adorable. They remind me of the type of clothes Audrey Hepburn might wear if she were around today. Cute, colorful and fun. Its the kind of clothes a cute girl next door would wear.

So guys, if you’re looking for a little gift for your sweat heart go check them out, and keep an eye on the sales which are great.

Tuxedo Season

With the Oscars airing on Sunday Feb. 27th a lot of fashion talk on the web is surrounding what the host James Franco will be wearing. Well It looks like Esquire has the inside gossip on his tuxedo.

The shawl-collar looks great on his slim body but I wonder how trendy this will be. One reason I went with a peak lapel was to be timeless and have a tuxedo I can always wear no matter what the trend is. Unless you have a fashion house designing the tuxedo for you I would suggest getting something that will stand the test of time that you can wear to black tie affairs for the rest of your life. Oh and get a hand tied bow tie, not one of those pre-tied bow ties. I tried a pre-tie bow tie to a wedding a month before ours and you can really tell the difference in a real bow tie, looks more elegant.

Esquire has a nice guide for the everyman for choosing a tuxedo for your event. Best advice I can give after my experience is to look around and do not be afraid to go into the big fashion shops like Armani, Gucci, Tom Ford and so forth. You more than likely will not be able to drop a down payment on a house for a tuxedo but at least they will help you out and give you some ideas on what works well on your body.

Rocking a tuxedo is great and is the only thing that the groom really has to worry about.
